Are You There Congress? It’s Me, Matt
So today, the Senate passed Bush’s domestic spying program bill because the President made sure the American people were as scared of terrorism as humanly possible, made the alternative of protecting your civil liberties seem like a luxury, and then told Congress they couldn’t go out an play for a month until they gave him exactly what he wanted.
I would expect this from the rubber-stamp Republican-controlled Congress but the Democrats took power and what they’ve done with it seems to be a grand total of nothing. So the Executive Branch does whatever it wants, ruins our country, and the two branches that are intended to stop such abuses just stand aside.
I’m watching my country die and I don’t know what to do anymore. The founders thought that if government ever got too corrupt, then the citizens could revolt and refresh the tree of liberty. We’re all too comfortable to do that and the sacrifice required is not what we would give. I mean, I know I get pissy when my Internet connection goes down. I’m not willing to risk my life when I could be at home on the Internet.
No one’s going to do anything. It’s just going to keep getting worse. There’s no turning point. There’s just more corruption. This administration has done more damage to our country than Al-Qaeda could ever dream. And while some will say it’s government’s fault, there’s nothing inherently wrong with our government as much as everyone we elected to it seems to have failed us. Sure, there are some good folk, but nowhere near enough.
There’s a lot of comparison to this administration and the Nixon administration but Nixon was brought down by the Fourth Estate. The press did its job. Now, the press won’t protect us. Our country is dying but the news is now totally responsible not to the truth but to shareholders so it’s not even a matter of bias as much as it’s matter of what’s entertaining.
Paul Rudd Is Playing With Power
I think Paul Rudd is great. He absolutely kills in the supporting work he’s done and I wish Judd Apatow would grace him and the world with a comedy where he’s the star instead of a supporting character that would steal the film if not for an equally-excellent lead like Steve Carell or Seth Rogen.
What made Paul Rudd so great? I think I have the answer and if I’m ever lucky enough to meet him, this is gonna be the basis for my first question:
